I've been searching for a few secondary iPhone docks for a while, as I've wanted to use the iPhone (first generation) docks as audio docks on a couple of stereos in the house. Moving the came-with-it dock to that venue meant I wouldn't have one at my Mac. Technically I didn't need it (just needed the USB to Dock Connector Cable) but I wanted the ease of docking. Apple's price for their docks are rather high -- and I figured if I was going to spend the money, I might as well get something with extras.

Enter the Simplifi which, while not doing anything earth-shattering, adds a few pluses to the arguably-required dock for your iPod or iPhone: a two-port USB hub and a camera card reader, capable of handling the most common types (Compact Flash, SD (including SDHD), xD, and Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro).

A warning if you use Memory Stick Pro (the little card); it will read the small cards but you need to use the adapter (that makes it sized to the original cards)...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but as good as I've seen, November 30, 2008

This is probably the best combination iPod/card dock on the market, and at the end of the the day it gets the job done, but there are a few warts.

1. The the build quality is OK but not outstanding. The innards are not fixed to the external extruded aluminum casing. With no tools and only a little force you can pop the insides right out. What this really means is that if you shake it, you can hear rattling. For what it costs, I was hoping for a more sturdy assembly.

2. The rubber base, while a nice idea, doesn't help to keep the unit from sliding much because the whole unit weighs so little. For an all-in-one desktop fixture I wish it had a bit more heft.

3. There are two regular USB ports on back, but none on the front. To me it seems like a non-braier that one of those two ports should be facing forward for easier access. Heck, I would have settled for a port on the side. Putting both on the back borders on malicious.

4. This is not a UDMA...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good dock, although it has one flaw, November 21, 2008

This dock has one flaw that kind of bothers me. Even when it is connected to the AC adapter, it will not charge my iPhone unless it is connected to my Mac. This is kind of annoying. I thought I could use this dock as a charger since it had an AC adapter (unlike the Apple dock), but its just not possible.l I just noticed that it says so clearly on the griffin support webpage for this product. I guess it was my fault for not reading their support page first. Anyways, the fact that it's a USB hub and that it can load CF and SD cards is great, it saves me a lot of desk space and means I only have one cable plugged into my Macbook. I just wish it could work as a charger when my Mac was in another room.
