The Apple Remote operates on an infrared-based transmitter. If it has an unobstructed line-of-sight to the receiver, the Apple Remote can function at distances of up to 30 feet.The remote was designed to attach magnetically to the side of the late G5 and early Intel iMacs. These models integrated several hidden magnets in the bottom right corner which attract the remote's battery. This is also possible with the frame of MacBook screens. As of February 2008, the MacBook and MacBook Pro no longer include an Apple Remote in the package, though it remains compatible and available as an option for the MacBook Pro. As of March 2009, the iMac and Mac Mini also no longer ship with an Apple Remote in the package.

I bought this remote to use with my Mac Book Pro 13". It is a great little remote. The remote works with the Front Row program. You can access the DVD player, Movies on the mac, podcast, and music on the mac using the remote with Front Row. It is super easy to use. When I watch a DVD on the mac I can play, pause, volume, skip, fast forward, and rewind, like any other remote would do. I am truly happy with it. And yes you can scroll through music but on Front Row not on Itunes. But all the same songs are on front row as they are on Itunes so no big deal.

This remote can control my MacBook Pro from 50 feet away. Apple's remote range is amazing - I can aim it away from the computer, behind my back, and it still works.

Buy. This. For me it was a little under 10 dollars, including shipping. And for a computer 130 times that price, I didn't expect much. I have a MacBook Pro and this remote works perfectly. It has the iTunes features like play/pause, and next/previous. It also controls your computers volume, with a push of a button. When I first got the remote, I was like, "oh crap, no set up instructions?" IT DOESN'T NEED THEM. It worked on my mac, then I went to the next room over and it worked on my brothers. The "MENU" button opens a program called Front Row which is like this awesome fullscreen display of iTunes that I've never used before but definitely will start to. You don't have to be incredibly close to your Mac either, and it works when you have headsets or USB's in. It's amazing, especially for the price. 100% recommend.
